Regarding the first purpose, the results indicated that there were significant differences between African-Americans and Euro-Americans on the following variables: perceptions of racial discrimination, perceptions of a lack of approval from significant others, conflict between child care and career demands as a career barrier, and intentions to talk to others about career planning. Regarding the second purpose, the results provided some support for using social cognitive career theory for both African-Americans and Euro-Americans. There were, however, several ethnic differences in the analyses of the social cognitive hypotheses.
